ASEAN Internship for University Students of Hong Kong Scheme – Invitation to Participate

I am writing to share with you the ASEAN Internship for University Students of Hong Kong Scheme (the internship scheme), which is initiated by the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office of the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) to provide opportunities for Hong Kong university students to undertake internships in ASEAN with a view to enhancing the bilateral relations between Hong Kong and ASEAN. The internship scheme was officially launched by Mr John C Tsang, Financial Secretary of HKSAR on 31 July 2014 in Singapore. Some photos taken at the launching ceremony are attached.

The Internship Scheme

2. We understand from the HKETO that 2014 is the first year of the internship scheme’s implementation, which has met with most encouraging responses with some 50 organisations in ASEAN offering over 150 internship places. Eventually, some 90 Hong Kong university students have taken up internships in 7 ASEAN countries. These host organisations included HKSAR Government and related agencies, ASEAN governments and related agencies, international organisations, think-tanks, arts and cultural groups, private companies, etc. The feedbacks we received from the 2014 host organisations are most encouraging, with one commenting that the internship scheme has brought “some inspiration at [their] work place…it [was] really an enjoyable experience”. The Hong Kong student interns are equally enthusiastic, with some considering starting a career or even business in ASEAN after graduation.

3. The 2015 round of the internship scheme is about to begin. The HKETO has invited our Association to help promote the scheme to our members, including your goodself. The internship scheme is simple (details appended below), the only requirement from the HKETO for your organisation to become a host organisation under the scheme is the provision of internship opportunit(ies) with proper coaching. For those interested in participating, please complete the attached form and return to the HKETO, if possible, by 20 October (Monday). Enquiries regarding the internship scheme can be directed to Ms Avril Chi, Public Relations Assistant of the HKETO (email: avril_chi@hketosin.gov.hk or tel: (65) 6330 9345). Thank you for your kind attention and consideration.
